Under $10M: Brecksville Road (SR 21) Bridge over IR-480, ODOT, District 12

David Selzer (ODOT), Emily Wellman (Osborn Engineering), Donald Ramm (City of Independence), and Steven Gibson (formerly Chagrin Valley Paving) will present on the rehabilitation of the SR 21 bridge over IR-480 in Independence, Ohio. The project replaced the bridge deck and rehabilitated the substructures while relocating aerial utilities to be supported on the bridge, incorporating signature aesthetic treatments for the City of Independence, and improving sight-distances at nearby drives. Maintaining vehicular and pedestrian traffic was critical to the success of the project, as SR 21 is a reliever route of IR 77 and carries heavy vehicular traffic as well as the GCRTA 77F bus route connecting the local area to downtown Cleveland. Additional complexity was introduced into the project construction phasing to accommodate MOT for the Valley View Bridge Design-Build project which was underway immediately below this bridge throughout the design and construction phases.
